Well, the autumn tidy up on the Allotment has started! I always love this time of year, doing the hard graft, clearing and digging and mulching. My first big project was to take down the last pea trellis, clear the bed and plant out next year’s early brassicas.
I use Nutscene twine to build my structures as I can just snip the knots and take everything that isn’t bamboo canes to the compost heap. No messing about with untangling things, it’s simple! (I also love the colours!)
I had some bad luck in the seedling bed, the brassicas got munched! Luckily I had popped into Wyvale for something else and managed to find a tray each of cabbage, purple sprouting broccoli and cauliflower in the reduced section for £2 each. The surviving plants in the trays were the perfect number for me, so it was all very serendipitous.
I look forwards to fresh greens in the springtime. Fingers crossed these survive the slugs!
